The annual Edexcel High Achiever’s Award Ceremony was held on 20 November 2017 at the Nelum Pokuna, Mahinda Rajapakse Theater among a distinguished gathering including foreign emissaries from Pearson Edexcel and the British Council.
M. D. Gunasena International School students who outshone at their Edexcel GCSE and Advanced Level Examination received honors at this prestigious ceremony.
Sheran Paul Anthony Amalraj and Priyavathanaa Mohanaraj outrivaled in Accounting and bagged first places in the world, for Accounting, attaining full marks on their papers, at the June 2017 Advance Level Examination.
The M. D. Gunasena International School Annual, Inter-house, Sports Meet was on fire as it took place, at the Sugathadasa Outdoor Stadium on Saturday, 22 September. In reminiscence of the original Olympic flames, lit at Olympia, in Greece, the ceremony started with the Olympic torch relay, which formally came to an end with the lighting of the Olympic cauldron, at the opening ceremony of the games. The torch bearer was the celebrated Sports Captain of the school who carried the ‘Olympic flame’ in stoical composure. He was escorted by an equally composed entourage of Heads of the four Houses: Winston, Lincoln, Fleming and Newton. Ms. Gayani Dissanayake, a strategic member of the National Netball team of Sri Lanka, favored the occasion. Despite the fact that it was arranged during the monsoon period, keen students and competitive athletes made hay, while the sun shone dazzlingly, on that memorable day. Winston House reached topmost with 979 points, Lincoln scored 666 points, Fleming accomplished 534 marks and Newton realized a total of 521.

M.D. GUNASENA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL GENERATES CHAMPIONS IN MARTIAL ARTS IN A FLASH OF LIGHTNING
Despite the fact that Martial Arts has merely been taught for a very short span of time at the school, M.D. Gunasena International School can rightfully claim its rank in the Sanpaku Kan Karate Kata Championship 2018.
The First place in the championship was seized by Aashiq Roshan and the Third place was bagged by T. Ashwienaath.
M. D. Gunasena International School students have flourished in the Colombo Central Divisional Athletic Meet, 2018, held on 2 March, at St. Joseph’s College, Colombo.
Illustrious, Azam Asim was awarded third place in Discus Throwing and he advanced, further, to bring fame and acquired second position in shot put, in the Boys’, under twenty event.
Our celebrated athlete, Mufaz Miktham, on the other hand, was conferred third rank in High Jump, in the Boys’, under twenty event of the Meet.
M. D. Gunasena International School students, gifted in the flair for traditional, Kandyan dancing, received much acclamation at, ‘The Voice Over Festival’, 2017, an affiliate of the British Art Festival Association. All our students who partook in the festival were extolled as they achieved high-status awards. Three students who participated in the festival, attained first place and six other pupils from the school acquired second place in their time-honored, flamboyance for Kandyan dancing.
