Music

There is little doubt that music has far-reaching powers. Music is regarded as the finest of arts since the sound produced by an instrument reaches the listeners’ ears, directly and promptly, with no barrier in between. When a piece of music is being performed, it is an experience that covers a definite span of time during which a symphonic ensemble takes place and the listener feels occupied, instantaneously, in its unfolding.

Students, at M. D. Gunasena International School, are introduced to Music at a tender age. The finest of Art, Music, harmoniously, becomes a platform from which values are communicated, indirectly, to our pupils.

They, moreover, learn the basic gen about composition; its styles, forms, terminologies and other facts, necessary, in obtaining an in-depth knowledge of the subject.

Music dominates all our school events. It is an integral part of all our happenings. Our young musicians acquire the privilege of boasting their musical talents to the farthermost through plentiful occasions held in the school, such as, Concerts, Festivals, Language Day, Talent Show, Prize Giving and Prefects’ Investiture that fill up the calendar, every year.

Pupils in the College Choir are well molded in singing church music in English and Latin. Choral music including Gregorian chants and Polyphonic music is enjoyed by students even without the ability to read, write or play a musical instrument. The choir is entertaining, relaxing and helps children to find joy in self-expression, further, it helps to bring individuals together, thereby, creating peace and harmony amongst students.
