Digital Library

The well-resourced Library of the M. D. Gunasena International School was established on the same day, the school was founded, in the year 2000. The library is opened on weekdays including school vacations from 8.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m., to provide its services to students and teachers.

The fully stocked Library and Reading Room features a quiet, comfortable, air-conditioned environment, with textbooks, resource material, study guides and magazines available for lending and reference purpose.The objective of the library is to improve reading habits of students to a distinguished extent; provide updated information to both students and teachers, support students by providing Information Technology facilities to both students and staff. The library stalwartly supports the words of the American journalist, editor and women’s rights advocate, Margaret Fuller, “Today a Reader; Tomorrow a Leader.”

The library consists of four central sections; Lending, Information Technology, Reference and Magazines. The library is currently furnished with as many as 6000 books and regular periodicals, in English, Sinhala and Tamil Languages. M.D Gunasena Company is well known to have given and continues to give the nation the habit of reading, and has, for over a century, austerely practiced their motto, ‘We taught the nation to Read.’ The school library in turn, scrupulously aims to improve students’ habit of reading at M.D. Gunasena International School.

Computer Laboratories

The IT Department of M. D. Gunasena International School is unique in value in the entire school system with a computer network that links 55 Personal Computers throughout the school. The division has high speed 4G connections with plans to quadruple bandwidth to facilitate faster downloading of information and data from the World Wide Web.

The School has two computer labs each containing 25 computers, equipped with multi-media facilities and Internet access.Further, each individual Personal Computer is equipped with a sound system. The Server Room of the IT Department is kept separately from the two labs and all the PCs are accessed via the Server PCs.

Apart from lessons in computing specified in the curriculum, our students are encouraged to use computer facilities as often as their schedules will permit. A Computer Teacher or a Lab Assistant is always present to provide, help and guide students in the proper and meticulous use of facilities.The school offers computer and internet services to all teachers and students,to enhance and develop active and meaningful Teaching-Learning Processes. The Computer Labs and IT amenities of M.D. Gunasena International School are frequently requested by the British Council and the IT department has become a center for the British Council, Cambridge and Edexcel ICT Practical examinations held in May.
The IT Department extends a great privilege to our students to experience state-of-the-art Know-how as well as be educated with the most innovative and advanced technology available in information via the well outfitted IT Department of the school.

Chemistry Laboratory

The chemistry laboratory is mainly utilized by students of Grades 10, 11, 12, to execute practical assignments related to their syllabi and course outline. Among the sundry experiments carried out in the laboratory, our young scientists conduct analysis of chemicals, identification of chemicals as well as perform the destitution of components of liquids and their separation.

Physics Laboratory

The Physics Lab is equipped with apparatus to facilitate students perform Practical tests on Heat, Waves, Sound, Electricity and Magnetism and notably, to gratify all the demands of the Edexcel and Cambridge Ordinary and Advanced Level curricula at hand. The laboratory offers a pleasant atmosphere to work in and is well lit and ventilated with the capacity to accommodate circa 15 students. The novice in charge of physics,together with the support of the lab technician,assists our student physicists at all times with their Practical work.

Biology Laboratory

The Biology laboratory is well equipped with cutting-edge apparatus and biological models, which allow students to advance their knowledge to a great deal, in a convenient and hygienic ambience,and to face the continuous demands and satiate the requirements of the Edexcel and Cambridge Ordinary and Advanced Level prospectuses. The laboratory is regularly upgraded with the most up-to-date apparatus. Student are guided methodically and with the utmost care by highly experienced teacher and a veteran laboratory assistant, in all experiments carried out.

Music Room

The Music Room is one of bounteous space and natural light. It accommodates a baby grand piano, organ, drums and other musical instruments. It is a pleasant space that is flooded with natural light to arouse and boost the forte for music.

Dancing Room

Dancing is a discipline that M. D. Gunasena International School takes pride in. The school deems that dancing reduces depression, anxiety and stress levels, develops self-confidence, promotes relaxation, increases metabolism, muscle strength, endurance and flexibility. The school has placed a great deal of attention in the enhancement of dancing as an instruction and hence, it has developed a well-resourced dancing room.

Art Room

The Art Room at M. D. Gunasena International School is a well-appointed, large, spacious room bathed in natural light. The generous wall space it allows, makes room for students’ exhibition of work.

We believe that Art paves the way for opening a flood of creativity in a child and crafting a memorable experience. It, in addition develops visual and spatial skills, literacy, fine and gross motor skills, connection and understanding as well as problem solving abilities. Art lessons are a focal part of the school curriculum and classes are also conducted after school for pupils interested in expressing their individuality.

Sickbay

The M. D. Gunasena School campus has a convenient, well-found sick bay with First Aid facilities to deal with minor medical problems and injuries. A licensed Nurse is accessible at all times in cases of emergencies. The Nurse keeps parents well informed at all times.

Swimming pool

The on-campus Swimming pool at M. D. Gunasena International School functions ideally as a learners’ pool. Swimming is a part of the school curriculum and our extensive pool facilities meet and exceed all expectations. The school has a professional swimming coach on board to ensure safety.

Auditorium

The Lilian Auditorium is conveniently located on-campus and accommodates about 300 spectators. It is titled Lilian after the wife of the Founder of M. D. Gunasena and Company Limited. It is an exceedingly modern and spacious auditorium with contemporary facilities that are continuously revised to meet our up-to-the-minute, students’ requirements and to keep up with newfangled technologies.

Tuck Shop

The Tuck Shop is handily located in the school grounds to enable students to acquire food and beverages during school intervals and play time. The Tuck Shop opens before school commences and its opening hours are fittingly intended to suite the expediency of our children. The Tuck shop ‘carte du jour’ is planned to serve wholesome, nourishing diets that elevate healthy growth and develop imperative faculties in adolescence.
